With 2019 fast approaching the East London Advanced Motorcyclists and EuroTrax announce for the twelfth year running their unique track coaching weekend in France. Are you up for the challenge of learning track riding in Summer 2019? Rob Connolly, our Membership Secretary, answers your FAQs.

For 2019 we are again looking to repeat our successful annual trip to Circuit de Folembray, France! This year the weekend will run a little later than previously; travel out will be Friday 16th August, track riding and presentation evening Saturday 17th August, and the return journey on Sunday 18th August.

All you need do to reserve a place on the trip is register your interest now. There is no money to pay until January 2019; it’s simply about planning the numbers for accommodation and travel. As a budget guide the trip last year cost around £300 paid over 3 instalments. We obviously don’t know what Brexit and the exchange rate will do, but if you plan for this sort of cost you won’t be too far out.

For those who have never been on one of our days before and are concerned by the word “track” – please don’t be – the day is structured with three groups, from extremely cautious, to a little cautious, with the premiere group comprising progressive and planned but careful riders.

If you want to know what the experience is like from previous riders’ perspectives, take a look at last year’s photos on the forum, check out Andy’s blog page on Folembray 2018, and Parveen’s feature piece on Folembray 2017 when she rode abroad for the first time!

Do I have to wear the latest in one piece leather with full air bag technology? Not really, but if that’s what takes your fancy go for it. Most people wear the same motorcycle clothing they wear on our group social rides back home – Zip-together textile, leather, and Kevlar is allowed and fine!

But I ride a cruiser. Well, somebody has to, and why shouldn’t you? If your bike is road legal, can start, stop, and go around corners in the UK then it is purpose-made for one of these days.

Everyone will be faster than me! No, they won’t, because our Observers will be going slower to make sure everyone is having a great time, offering coaching on road riding techniques throughout the day. The event caters for ALL abilities, from experienced to cautious.

Can I have different departure and return dates? Yes, definitely. Several riders choose to extend their trip to France on either side of the track day; from riding through the wonderful Ardennes region through to a cheeky blast down to the Black Forest’s B500.

Can I come along if I am not an ELAM member? Priority is given to ELAM Associates and Full Members, but there are usually places for a few extra guests. Register your interest early to avoid disappointment.

How can I get on this trip? To reserve a place, simply e-mail membership@elam.org.uk giving your name and whether you would like to bring a riding or non-riding guest.
